0. Getting started

1. Objective

In this exam, you are given a virtual machine called $USERNAME-tentti. This virtual machine has some applications installed and a few services it is supposed to provide. However, the previous administrator of the machine has done a terrible job, and quite a few things are broken, messy or misconfigured.

Your goal is to determine what is wrong with the machine and fix those issues.

Inside the virtual machine, there is a log file (created by the previous administrator of the VM) located at /$USERNAME-tentti.log. Use this file to your advantage.

You are to document your findings, fixes and comments in a log file located at /home/$USERNAME/$USERNAME-tentti.txt inside the virtual machine.

2. Rules

• Exam time: 4 hrs
• You are allowed to use all course materials during the exam.
• You are allowed to search the Internet for information passively, however
• No communication with others is allowed (in person or via e-mail, instant messengers etc.)
• You do not have access to the VM host (lonka8) during the exam. If you need to shutdown or restart your VM during the exam, ask the teachers.
• You are required to have a log file in your home folder as specified above - THIS IS YOUR EXAM ANSWER SHEET.
  FAILURE TO HAVE A CORRECTLY NAMED AND LOCATED LOG FILE WILL RESULT IN A FAILING GRADE.
• If you are having trouble with your VM and wish to start the exam over, you are allowed to request a complete reset of your VM from the teachers. You can do this as many times as needed.
  !!! Requesting a reset will not extend your exam time.
• LEAVE YOUR VM RUNNING AFTER THE EXAM.

3. Grading

• PASS/FAIL (Reminder: Passed course = all exercises completed + PASS grade on exam)
• The teachers reserve the right to adjust the grading framework
